Happy new year

Happy new year everybody!

I’m happy with my HTC Touch HD, but one particularly annoying problem has come up for me, and many others I presume, with the built-in audio player in TouchFLO 3D, playlists and audio manager crashing. There are alot of forum posts out there about these problems, but no one I’ve found so far describes my problems exactly, yet alone how to solve them. So I decided to post a list of my problems, what I’ve discovered so far and some fixes/workarounds, feel free to try them out and discuss on how we can solve this!

Here are my problems, scenarios and comments…

christmas presentIt’s abit sad we don’t have any snow in Stockholm/Sweden this Christmas, snow is part of the Christmas spirit, atleast in this part of the world, but I guess we’ll have to do without it this year. Merry Christmas and happy holidays everybody!

Star Wars - The clone warsWatched “Star Wars – The clone wars” today, an animated movie that I had trouble understanding its purpose for, but I guess it’s for kids. The animation of charactersis not that good, abit like vector-graphics straight from a computer game, but it does grow on you somehow and you start to like the idea of the movie after a while. But for me it didn’t cut it all the way.

Eagle Eye

Watched “Eagle Eye” today, it was a good movie, lots of action, pretty much non-stop. The plot was also pretty good, like a mix of “Die hard 4.0″ and “I Robot”, I really can’t tell more without revealing too much, but I think it’s worth seeing if you liked those two movies.

PS3 Media ServerToday I tested “PS3 Media Server“, a software that allows you to stream and view media from a PC to a Playstation 3, like HD movies. This is pretty much the same functionality as TVersity, which I have written a guide to on this blog, but PS3 Media Server is supposed to be able to handle 1080p videos with ease and also to include subtitle files and many other things.

PS3 Media Server is a free software that was released in version 1.00 just a few days ago, it requires no installation and no setup, for me it was pretty much working right out of the box (probably because I had all codecs already installed from my TVersity installation). I could share my movie-folder and it came up on the PS3 in seconds and I could play DVD ISO-files with no configuration at all. The only problem I had was with video and sound sync, they were several seconds out of sync, but I managed to solve that by disabling the “auto A/V sync” option in the transcoding configuration. The program has a large buffer that is visualized on the main screen and it works very well, there were no stuttering at all throughout the movie.

I liked this program alot, I will probably use this instead of TVersity now because TVersity is slow on updates, takes alot of memory and CPU usage and stutters sometimes in videos. This program seems much faster and more efficient. I’m looking forward to try it out with full HD videos and subtitles and see how everything works.

I’m using Telia as network provider for my mobile phone, but on their website they don’t have any automatic settings available for download for my new HTC Touch HD, nor any other HTC mobiles for that matter. So one have to enter the information manually to enable MMS and Internet connection, and here’s how…
