Ever since I noticed that TouchFlo 3D (also known as Manila) got updated on newer phones, but not on my HTC Touch HD, I have been thinking of doing it myself with one of the multiple custom ROMs available for this phone, made by enthusiasts of the Windows Mobile community. The newer versions of Manila has alot more nice functions and much better looks that I want, my phone comes with version 1.3 so it’s pretty basic. The procedure seemed a bit complicated though, and I didn’t want to risk my warranty on the phone. But after e-mailing HTC asking whether or not the HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) would ever get an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 and newest version of Manila and they replied…

- We currently have no knowledge of any planned updates for the HD. It is unlikely to be updated to 6.5 or beyond as Microsoft have made some hardware restrictions on devices that can use 6.5 that the HD does not meet.

… I decided to go ahead with my plans, since I know that many people use Windows Mobile 6.5 and later versions of Manila on their Touch HD’s and it runs just fine. I’m gonna go for Dutty’s “Leo” ROM with Windows Mobile 6.5 and Manila 2.5, since Dutty seems to be the most popular and skilled ROM cook out there, and here’s a step-by-step guide on how I did it.

Crank

Saw Crank tonight, the first one, not the sequel. I wanted to see this first since the sequel takes off where the first ends. The plot is about a hitman who becomes poisoned by a drug that forces him to keep his heart rate high in order to keep alive, and basically become a big adrenaline junkie. He must find new ways to keep his adrenaline level high while seeking his revenge. The movie was an OK action movie with some funny elements, there is also some blood and gore.

Ice Age 3

Saw Ice Age 3 tonight. It’s an OK movie, a few laughs but overall pretty much predictable. If you like the first two movies you’ll like this one probably, it’s about the same. Can’t think of anything more to say about it really…

Recently I noticed that the camera in my HTC Touch HD showed I had only 59 photos left until my memory card would be full, which was strange because I had only used about 3.5 Gb out of the 8 Gb available. This seems to be a bug on the phone when approaching about half of the capacity of your memory card, for most users this might happen when the amounr of free space is closing down to 4 Gb, a patch for it should be available from HTC sooner or later I guess. After searching some information about this problem I stumbled upon some ideas that might fix the problem, one being to connect the phone to your computer with USB cable in disk mode and do a normal defrag of the drive. In my case this did not work. Another idea was to save more files to the card so the amount of free space would be less than 4 Gb, thus forcing the decive to recognize the 4 more gigabytes that are available. This worked better and here’s how I did it…

Tonight I was at the Street Cars Fest in Stockholm, a car show for custom cars. I was abit dissapointed at the size of the show, there were only about 25-30 cars there, and some were not that hot anyway, if I had joined with my Vanessa (Dodge Charger 2006) I sure as hell would have beat a couple of them. There were some hot cars there though, these cars with alot of TV-monitors and huge speakers I really don’t see the beauty of, but some of them were very clean in style and looked good. Here are some pictures from the show…

X-men origins: WolverineSaw “X-men origins: Wolverine” today and I must say it was one of the best movies I’ve seen, it’s right up there close to the top of my list of favorite movies of all time. It just kept on delivering coolness, great effects and story. No problem in keeping the concentration and focus, it was very good all the way through and the experience of special effects and sounds was great. In the movie we are following Logan (or Jimmy) from his childhood and the origin of “Wolverine”, and we also see some of the other known characters of future X-men from previous movies. There are also other mutants with very cool powers in the movie, and we get to get an understanding of how old Logan really is. The story was well presented and planned, no complaints there.

I like the X-men movies and this didn’t let me down one bit. I’m not sure if it’s that kind of a movie you want to see over and over again, but I was actually trying to find something that would force me not to give it a 5 stars out of 5. However, if I gave “Knowing” 4.5/5 I have to give this one more credit… if you like X-men, effects and good action, go and see it!

I grew up playing with Legos alot, it’s a great toy. I sometimes still get some urge to build some cool stuff with Lego but I didn’t have any left, until yesterday. I decided to get Lego Mindstorms, which is a robot lego kit where you can combine the easy fun of Legos and the more complex satisfaction of robotics and programming. The Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 comes with 1 control unit, 3 servo motors, 2 touch sensors, 1 light/color sensor and 1 ultrasonic sensor, and ofcourse alot of Lego bits to put the together. My first robot is an exploring robot, it will go about the room and turn if something gets too close or if it bumps into something. Watching alot of robot- and sci-fi movies I have learned that all robots must have an amok subroutine (often indicated by a red light being lit), so so does mine. It will run amok at random intervals and start to blink and shout “error… error… error…”. If everything is OK it will just drive around, sometimes laughing and apologizing when it bumps something. It’s pretty fun to build, program and test it, it takes some patience though, but it is not difficult. But you really should have an interest in robotics and talent of Lego building, because it’s a pretty expensive toy. Good fun though and a nice time killer on rainy day of your vacation perhaps.
