Yesterday I went to a few phonestores to check out the HTC Touch Diamond and also peek at the IPhone 3G. I found the IPhone but was surprised about how huge it is, it’s thin and all, but the height and width is just too much for any normal pocket. I usually wear my phones around the neck if possible to prevent scratching and breaking if I have it in my pocket, but with an IPhone on me I think that would just look stupid. The interface looked very nice and smooth though.

I didn’t find the HTC Touch Diamond, it was even removed from the showcase in most stores, I guess it’s sold out. That phone is smaller I think, and thinner, more like an actual phone than a PDA. But I just can’t find it to check it out.

Apparently the new firmware is much faster, which was one of my main concerns before, the others being the camera and the lack of memory expansion possibility. It seems like this phone is more popular than the IPhone in most discussion forums though, and also in my poll here. I don’t know what to do, stick with the Nokia N95 for a while or get a new model? The HTC seems so cool. Perhaps there’s some retailer out there who is interested in some sponsored blog entries & goodwill and can send me one? :) I love new gadgets.

Perhaps it’s time for a new phone. I have a Nokia N95 now, but I’m thinking about getting a new one. The most popular phones today are the HTC Touch Diamond, IPhone 3G and Nokia N95. I have not tested the IPhone or HTC, but these are my observations on these phones. I also like what LG is going with the design of their LG Secret and also Sony Ericsson has some cool features on their newest phones.

HTC Touch Diamond: Nice design, touch screen and a good looking interface. Built in GPS but no GPS software comes with it. No possibility for storage expansion, built in 4 Gb memory. Only 3.2 megapixel camera. It’s slow (like all HTCs with Windows Mobile) with the original softwares. I really want to try this out though, it seems cool. Keywords that apply: new, touchflow, fresh design, slow, no storage expansion, unimpressive camera.

IPhone 3G: Nice design, touch screen and good interface. Overrated phone that doesn’t even have basic functionality like MMS or radio. Also buggy with 3G in Sweden. I don’t see what the hype with IPhone is all about. Keywords that apply: new, fresh design, overrated, no mms, no radio, expensive to own.

Nokia N95: This phone has all the functions you could ask for along with GPS and a 5 megapixel camera, but no touch screen. Also the design is getting abit old. New softwares comes all the time and the GPS works good with the free software. Nokia makes great phones, I’ve never had problems with them and Symbian is a good operating system. Keywords that apply: have all features you need, no touchscreen, older design.

I would probably get the HTC Touch Diamond if it wasn’t for it’s reported slowness. So either I will wait for the second version of the Diamond when they’ve upgraded it abit with better camera, storage expansion slot and faster CPU/software and better battery capacity, or perhaps Nokia will come out with a touch screen model soon, I’m really looking forward to that. Hopefully they have also come up with a new cool design. By changing the design of the N95-model to something simular to the Diamond, and integrating a touchscreen interface Nokia has the recepie for a phone that would beat everything else.

I want touchscreen on my next phone, together with all features that come with the N95 today, and I don’t want a phone the folds or slide. Who will be first to give me that? HTC, Nokia or someone else? Until then I’ll stick with the Nokia N95 which still is the phone with most features and reliability I think.

What are your experiences with these phones?
